Week 8 MBA 6101 Final Post

My thoughts on the marketing and the impact can be summed up in the book, Tipping Point . The concept of effective marketing can be analyzed from a tipping point perspective. When an idea or advertisement maintains a presence on the consumer it can build momentum. To do this, innovators and early adopters such as in Roger's Theory begin the shift. If the early adaptors are able to spread the news about a product it will slowly but increasingly spread. In Tipping Point, Hush Puppies, a shoe brand was nearing its end as popularity and sales were at an all-time low. Sales were roughly 30,000 in the early 1990s nearing the end of the shoe company until a small group of people in New York were buying Hush Puppies at small stores. This group were the innovators and early adopters that spread the word about Hush Puppies and by mid 1990s sales skyrocketed. Truly innovative marketing can take this example and find products that can will be popular and increase sales until everyone wants to...

Week 8 - MBA 6601 - Surfing the Tsunami

Image
The conclusion of Surfing the Tsunami is important because it is the reality we need to continue to learn and grow. Failure to learn the lessons that have passed through time on changing times, new technology, and growth, lead to stagnation and obsolete thinking. A person does not have to only focus on computer science and AI, but a person needs to be aware of the changing market and times and should learn the concepts. In my field of nursing, I have integrated new technology into my practice such as ECMO to help patients recover multiorgan failure while they await a heart and/or lungs. It does not mean I do not have hesitancy or doubts but at the same time I see the value and potential lifesaving abilities. I can see ECMO or a form of it will be the future just like AI will be in the future.  AI has been in our lives for a while. It has been there for me when I was younger and used Microsoft Work. The clip known as Clippy would be the first AI I would interact with. As AI be...

Week 8 - MBA 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing

Image
Market research is important to understanding your customer base. Guerilla Marketing discusses two types or research: free research and paid research. The guerilla should take advantage of the free research to better appeal to their base and tailor their advertisement. One of the easiest ways is to have an informal survey that can be sent online or filled out at the time of purchase. I remember when I bought my first car a few years after graduating from college. The dealership wanted to know age, race, income, residency, and occupation. They wanted to know this to see who was buying their cars and how to tailor their ads to their future clients. One easy way to have a promotional discount such as new graduate discounts to outsell competitors in the same market. By focusing in on current and future clients and giving them a small but sizable discount, they can undersell competitors and build their client base. It works because I would go back to that dealership to look f...

Week 7 - MBA 6101 - AI Text

Image
The article discusses the use of AI writing text through key word searches. It is interesting because the article argues AI could and may be the future of writing as it evolves. AI could lead the future in marketing but it may not. I just finished reading the book, Tipping Point . In the book the author, Malcolm Gladwell, discusses the spread of an idea or disease in how it is kept stable until it reaches a tipping point and spreads to more people and continues to spread.  Although online advertisement is effective now, will it be as effective in five years. The book discusses the importance of network connection such as a phone. The first phone is connected to nobody but as more and more phones are connected the value increases. Telemarketing became popular because of the rise in phones. Over the years the effectiveness of telemarketing has decreased as people block calls. As AI predict and advertise to recently purchased items or key words in searches, people may block the online...

Week 7 - MBA 6101 - Surfing the Tsunami

This chapter focuses on AI and the community that is learning how to build AI. It is important to learn, adopt, and becoming adept in AI but also being part of the community to make it happen is important as well. By learning together AI can be created to achieve magnificent goals and achievements. A scientist does not discover new knowledge alone but rather has a team taht works together to gain knowledge. By doing so it enhances the learning and the wealth of knowledge is shared. Just like in in science, the AI community needs to share what they learn to enhance AI interface. One of the biggest problems that i can see is the lack of a workforce to do strenuous jobs taht require physical labor such as moving packages. If an AI could be developed and made to figure the most effective route and move items more efficiently, it could replace human labor. Those jobs may be lost but it creates new jobs in AI maintenance, development, and repair. By working as a community, robots with AI cou...

Week 7 - MBA 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing

Image
This week focuses on cost effective advertising. This means a guerrilla marketer can effectively cut costs and draw attention to their product. One of my favorite companies, Costco, does not advertise. To draw in customers their warehouses have memberships to purchase goods. The reason people love Costco is because they sell everything but also have the best prices because they buy in bulk. Traditional advertising works for certain companies but competitors like Costco see the value of adding money back into the business as more profitable than an ad.  One example is the fact Costco has a hot dog and soda for $1.50 and rotisserie chicken for $5. This has been the same price for some time even after inflation price hikes because it draws people into the store. As people walk by other items, they are more likely to buy them. It is advertising at its best when customers have to walk by items to get to the item they want. It draws the customer especially when Costco has samples. They d...

Week 7 - MBA 6101 - Ascend Your Start-Up

Image
This chapter focused on cultural collaboration. This reminds me of the team my director and I are building. We want a dynamic team from different backgrounds because we care for patients of different backgrounds. To see if applicants are a good fit, we ask a series of questions based on themes: conflict, feedback, diversity, equity, and inclusion.  When I ask for the definition of each term; diversity, equity, and inclusion, I have an understanding of their values and how they see patients. Then I ask what it means to them in their practice. The nurses that understand this can give heart to heart examples of going the extra step in providing care for patients. For example, in a recent interview a nurse described how the Koran is sacred to Muslims. When she found an item on top of it, she immediately removed it. By respecting the patient and families wishes shows her compassion of care and cultural collaboration.

Week 6 - MBA 6101 - Google Ad

Image
After creating my website and google ad, I wanted to see the results of my advertisement. At first it seemed like nobody would view the website or click the ad, but I increased the daily amount from $1 to $5 and a change. My number of impressions increased, and clicks increased as well. The interface from google was surprisingly easy to navigate and use. To have improved results a deep dive into google ads would be helpful to learn more and run different ads through a campaign.  In the future, I think an ad for a small business or webpage would be result in higher views and clicks as it would be more attractive. My friend has a podcast he wants to promote, and I think this would be a good marketing strategy to use to increase his followers. I look forward to future use of this application. It will be interesting to see if the trend increases again for my ad or it peaked on June 4th.

Week 6 - MBA 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing

This week's reading on focusing on marketing reminds me of a story published on  Business Insider  and on  TIME . Target marketing specialists noticed that a consumer would purchase certain products during major life events. Target's ability to predict major life events by tracking purchases was so accurate it could predict a pregnancy and due date. Target would send a congratulations card to the buyer about their soon to be child and coupons for baby products. What better way to entice more shopping then focusing in on their client and sending coupons on products they would buy. It was a great guerilla marketing strategy to focus on consumers that planned on buying those goods. The strategy worked well until an upset father stormed into the store demanding an apology from Target because his daughter was not pregnant but received the ad and coupons. Guerilla marketing is important to be successful out maneuver competitors when it comes to marketing. Teh reading discusses ...

Week 6 - MBA 6101 - Surfing the Tsunami

After reading this week chapter, I thought about the fact I need to learn more about coding. I tried to code in high school taking AP Java but did not retain any knowledge. Although my job is not technology focused, coding could potentially expand my ability to learn, and I may be able to use it in other applications. I'll probably start with Python and see how it goes from there. Besides learning about coding, I also have used AI in my work and personnel life to make it easier. I started to realize I miss meetings because I would lose track of time easily while talking with staff. I was becoming frustrated and annoyed because I was not punctual to meetings. My director set up manual alarms for each meeting but that seemed to time consuming. I decided to explore the notification ability on my outlook account. An alert could be enabled before meetings to notify me. I love this feature because I have not been late to any meeting after I enabled this feature. By working with AI, I was...

Week 6 - MBA 6101 - Ascend Your Start-Up

Image
This week's reading reminded me of the project my director and I were volunteered to trial and implement throughout the hospital. I required the bedside nurse to validate data in the computer to ensure it matched the documentation. To complete the project, the validation and documentation needed to be >95% accurate for three consecutive months. Other hospitals have attempted complete this project but have had little success. Seeing that this project may not be completed, I came up with a plan to manage the project by working night shift for the next 90 days.  This plan was rejected, and I was told that the project needed to be completed with a sustainable implementation plan. My director created a plan using Roger's Theory of Early Adopters. It called for training a select group who would implement the plan at first and slowly train the rest of the unit. The implementation was nearly flawless and now we are on track to achieve 100% accuracy for the second month. The succes...

Week 5 - MBA 6101 - Mozilla Foundation

Image
As technology advances, policy change and implementation lags behind. The ACCESS Act is a proposed legislation to enable end users to move their content from social media platforms. This is important because it creates an environment of competition and gives more access to end users. It will help new companies have an equal standing with other social media platforms as well.  Not only will it promote competition but will help privacy for end users. As an end user, we should have the right to move our content to another platform and have privacy control on who sees our content. Hopefully in time this legislation will pass and provide a more equitable market for social media as well as more privacy for end users.

Week 5 - MBA 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing

Image
At work, I attended a High Reliability Training Session with many of other leadership members. During the session a video clip was played showing a starving young boy pick through the trash for food. Bystanders walked by and did not help or assist the boy nor contact anyone to provide the boy with assistance. Bystanders continue to ignore the boy and at times it looks like someone will help but they continue to walk away instead. As a viewer you a struck with sadness and empathy for the boy. You want to reach out and provide assistance by bringing him food. Watch the video and think what organization, entity, or group is marketing for providing help? I was surprised to find it was not a homeless shelter or social services. New Zealand Police were marketing their services to show that joining their organization you can make the change to help young children, help the homeless, and help the starving. To me it is one of the best marketing campaigns because you feel a strong desire to help...

Week 5 - MBA 6101 - Ascend Your Start-Up

Image
This week's reading reminded me of my learning curve and climb as assistant nurse director. I started this new position in February and was eager to make an impact. One of my first assigned tasks was to oversee all controlled substances transactions from the Omnicell. As a former staff and in this new role I knew the importance of wasting controlled substances within an hour was the expected standard. I sent emails to individual staff members. Staff became extremely upset to receive an email rather than me reaching out while they are at work. I took a step back and adjusted my approach. I started to print reports out, but staff became upset with delayed reports because I was trying to see them in person. So again, I stepped back and sent emails about reports.  As frustrating as it was to go from emails to face to face then back to emails, the staff learned to grow with my development, and I learned to adjust to their expectations. Similar to Helen describing how businesses need to ...

Week 5 - MBA 6101 - Surfing the Tsunami

AI automation is now part of our daily lives. When I was younger, traveling to any new place required maps. I would print maps and use them to find where I was traveling to. Now with automation, I can turn google maps on and have the route created and adjusted for traffic. Without this automation, I would be lost and confused using maps. AI has benefits and drawbacks such as google maps. By working with and adopting to AI in our lives, we can become more productive and have more time for other tasks. For example, at work I receive automated reports. Before the AI interface was added, I would have to review the reports and randomly make audits. Now with AI interface being integrated, it runs a separate more precise report that saves me time and is makes me more efficient. These are some of the benefits to adopting AI.
